Math Recovery® Intervention
Math Recovery® Intervention happens alongside Add+VantageMR® and SNAP classroom assessment and instruction. Math Recovery® Intervention assessments use the same language and analysis descriptions as Add+VantageMR® and SNAP allowing for teachers to partner in advancing student learning. Math Recovery® Intervention Specialists are highly trained in assessment and teaching. Specialists draw upon a bank of exemplary teaching tasks specifically created for Math Recovery® Intervention. Instruction is targeted to areas of growth by expanding on students' current mathematical strengths.
Math Recovery® creates Intervention Specialists who have advanced knowledge in assessment, assessment analysis and most importantly making instructional decisions that are on the cutting edge of students' current understanding.
Add+VantageMR® assessments provide initial data on student learning in the classroom setting. Assessments can be given periodically throughout the year and results are used to form flexible small groups that focus on specific numeracy goals. Math Recovery® Intervention assessments provide additional detailed and comprehensive data that is used for one-on-one intervention. Math Recovery® Intervention is designed to target areas of need in number and operations through dynamic and intensive assessment and instruction.
Although the Math Recovery® Intervention course develops teacher knowledge for one-on-one intervention, teachers who take part in this professional experience develop a rich understanding of mathematics development for students and are thus skilled in making purposeful assessment and instructional decisions for small group and classroom teaching as well.
Knowledge for Teaching
The Math Recovery® Intervention Specialist course provides teachers with the most knowledge in Math Recovery® assessment and instruction. Over the course of this year-long learning experience, teachers spend time learning the craft of task selection targeted for the cutting edge of students' understanding. Teachers also participate in coaching sessions with an experienced Math Recovery® Leader and video-tape each lesson to be able to refine the craft of assessing and teaching concepts of number.
Knowledge provided in the Math Recovery® Specialist Course is well suited for building and district leaders and coaches.
