January 2015 Letter from Carolyn

Dear US Math Recovery® Members,

While 2014 was a very busy time for educators, 2015 is poised for even more opportunities. Mathematics standards, whether they be Common Core or individual state standards, are encouraging high levels of mathematical proficiency for all students. Math Recovery® programs continue to improve teachers’ understanding of mathematics and provide excellent assessment and instructional direction.

Teaching Number in the Classroom has become an important resource for many educators. On December 11, Ms. Ann Stafford-Dillon presented a webinar on the new “Purple Book.” (Wright, R., Stanger, G., Stafford, A., & Martland, J. (2015). Teaching Number in the Classroom with 4-8 Year Olds, Second Edition: SAGE Publications.) You may listen to a recording of the webinar or access supplemental resources, such as blackline masters, video clips, and a facilitators guide, on SAGE’s website at https://study.sagepub.com/wrighttnc. Thank you to SAGE and the authors for making this accessible!

Excitement is building for the 2015 US Math Recovery® Conference in Raleigh, North Carolina! The conference will surely expand your tools to open doors for mathematical success. Please read the other newsletter articles for more information on the conference, including information on presenters and on new opportunities for participation.

In order to serve you better, our US Math Recovery® offices have recently expanded. We have converted our previous address into a training facility and have moved our offices and inventory to a nearby location. In addition, we now have a new phone system, and all of our employees can be reached at the main phone number. The main phone and fax number remain unchanged.
