Dear US Math Recovery Council® Members,

Last year more that 5,600 educators participated in Math Recovery® courses across the United States. We consistently hear raving feedback about the high-quality training and instructors, about the models that provide a framework for educators to understand mathematical development, and about the assessments that help teachers understand their students’ mathematical strengths and needs for the first time. Not only are the educators growing in their ability to understand mathematics assessment and instruction, but they are also growing in their ability to understand math content.

A Michigan Mathematics and Science Partnership Grant, entitled Supporting Implementation of Math Recovery® Professional Development and led by Kristin Frang, quantifies the educator and student growth. We invite you to read through their findings under the “How It Works” tab on the website.

FINAL CALL FOR SCHOLARSHIPS: Tuition Assistance Applications Due March 10, 2017

In keeping with our mission, the US Math Recovery Council® Board of Directors has continued its tuition assistance for attendance at Math Recovery® events. All awarded funds will be used to offset US Math Recovery® registration costs.

In 2017, we are offering three $12,000 gifts to bring Math Recovery® professional development to school sites. Selection preference will be given to schools based on student and staff needs, administrative support, and potential impact, with special consideration for schools newer to Math Recovery® programs. Three separate sites will be selected. Interested schools should complete and submit an application form by March 10, 2017.

The US Math Recovery Council® is also offering three separate gifts of $3,500 toward Summer Institute training. Each of the three selected educators may choose to apply the award to Math Recovery® Intervention Specialist, Add+VantageMR® Champion, or Math Recovery® Leader training. BREAKING NEWS: Dr. Les Steffe to Speak at the 2017 US Math Recovery Council® National Conference!

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Les Steffe will be one of the featured keynote speakers at the 2017 Math Recovery Council® National Conference in October. His research is a foundational part of all Math Recovery® programs. A couple of Dr. Steffe's significant contributions in the area of number learning include the Stages of Early Arithmetical Learning (SEAL) and Children's Fraction Schemes. We are very fortunate to be able to learn from him directly at this year's conference. Dr. Steffe has graciously agreed to provide a keynote address and two breakout sessions during the conference. This year's conference will truly be a convergence of Math Recovery® researchers and practitioners. We hope you will be able to attend! DEADLINE EXTENDED for Speaker and Instructional Activity Showcase Proposals

It has come to our attention that people may need more time to prepare a speaker proposal or an Activity Showcase proposal for the 2017 US Math Recovery Council® Conference. We are responding to these requests by extending the deadline for proposals to April 17th.

Member sessions led by individuals like you, or you and some colleagues, could make all the difference for someone just beginning, for someone who needs an infusion of new ideas, or someone just learning about what Math Recovery® programs have to offer. Submitting a proposal is easy. Just go to http://www.mathrecovery.org/call-for-presenters and fill out the form. All it takes is a title and short description of your session.

Register TODAY for Fractions Champion

April marks the launch of the Add+VantageMR® Fractions Champion course. The course is offered for current AVMR Champions or MRIS Leaders who have completed the AVMR Fractions Course. AVMR Fractions Champion builds the necessary knowledge required to facilitate trainings and support district implementation of the Add+VantageMR® Fractions Course.

Add+VantageMR® Fractions Champion begins with the Champion working as a practitioner. Requirements for this portion are to work with students in the domain of fractions, either 1:1 or in a small group using their knowledge of Math Recovery® Intervention Specialist and the Developing Fractions Knowledge. Three virtual cohort meetings will take place during April and May to support this work with students. The first meeting will launch this experience and set up expectations for course work.
