Math Recovery Leader Professional Development Course
What is the Math Recovery Leader Professional Development Course?
This 10-month professional development program provides individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver the Math Recovery Intervention Specialist Professional Development course to teachers in their school district. It also offers preparation for the required continued staff development and coaching for their Math Recovery Intervention Specialist Teachers-in-Training.
The professional development program is an intensive six-day course conducted in the US each year as a component of the Math Recovery Summer Institute. The course is led by Dr. Robert J. Wright, Southern Cross University, Australia, Petey MacCarty and Kurt Kinsey from the US Math Recovery Council.
How Does It Work?
An understanding of the theory and practice of Math Recovery Intervention and the Learning Framework in Number is refined and extended through review and discussion of key video clips and professional readings. Participants are provided with support materials and professional readings including three supplemental texts. The initial six-day course is followed by a 10-month mentorship during which Leaders-In-Training will:
- Lead or co-lead a MR Intervention Specialist Professional Development Course under the supervision of a Mentor-Leader
- Coach Math Recovery Intervention Specialists
- Facilitate collegial meetings
- Submit a MR Leader professional profile
Upon completing the requirements, individuals become Certified Math Recovery Intervention Leaders and have the ability to conduct Math Recovery Specialist Professional Development Courses within their school district. Those who wish to become an out-of-district consultant must first be approved by the US Math Recovery Council.
Who Should Take MR Leader Training?
Teachers who wish to become Math Recovery Leaders must first be certified as Math Recovery Intervention Specialists and must be recommended for the Leader professional development program by their mentor (leader) and their school district.
How Much Does It Cost?
*The Math Recovery Leader course is $7800 for the first participant with scalable discounts for additional participants from the same district
