Add+VantageMR Champion

Math Recovery® Leadership Awards are open to individuals who are interested in building and supporting sustainable Math Recovery professional development and teaching initiatives in their districts.

The US Math Recovery Council® is excited to provide tuition award opportunities to those who apply for the Add+VantageMR® (AVMR) Champion*.

The AVMR Champion course is a year-long course that unpacks the delivery of both AVMR Course 1 and AVMR Course 2. Completion of the course qualifies educators to offer AVMR Course 1 and AVMR Course 2 within their district. Once a Champion is trained, participants in your district who take their courses only pay kit fees.

Add+VantageMR Champion

Teach AVMR 1 & AVMR 2 In-District
AVMR Champion Requirements:
AVMR Champion is a year-long course which prepares participants to facilitate both AVMR Course 1 and Course 2 in- district and provide on-going support for implementation.

The Champion course will cover how to teach both the in- person and virtual course. Champions focus on supporting educators to apply Math Recovery principles to classroom mathematics instruction.

Local Champions lead sustainable Math Recovery initiatives in schools and districts. Champions become an added resource of just-in-time support and help to ensure a sustained implementation of AVMR.

  • Participants can expect two or three hour synchronous course sessions with additional self-paced asynchronous online learning modules, course reading, and time to implement assessments and instructional activities with students throughout the course.

  • After initial designation, recertification requirements are required every three years to maintain the Math Recovery Specialist designation.

  • Participants must have their own dedicated space and computer during the online interactive professional development sessions.

  • Participants must teach an AVMR1 and AVMR2 course during the process of completing this course
Course Includes:
  • AVMR Champion Handbooks for AVMR1 and AVMR2 Compilation of readings of related research articles and provided books
  • All necessary instructional materials for delivering AVMR 1 & 2 courses including PowerPoints, videos, handouts, and digital resources
  • Access to digital course resources to support assessments, teaching, and reporting

Math Recovery Prerequisites: AVMR Course 1, Course 2, and MRSp1 (or MRIS) certification

Who Should Apply?

Educators who would like to teach and certify other local educators AVMR Course 1 and Course 2, along with supporting and leading local implementation of AVMR.

Application Deadline: End of day June 2, 2021.
Recipients will be announced the week of June 14, 2021.

  • Fill out the form from the Apply Now button
    • Finalists will submit an Administrator Letter showing support for the educator taking the course. A sample Administrator Letter can be found here.
    • Administrator Letters can be submitted on the application form or by emailing them to petey@mathrecovery.org
    • Finalists for the award may be asked to participate in a short interview

What is Math Recovery?

Math Recovery is research-based professional development which empowers educators to advance students’ mathematical thinking and success. We do this through educator development, student assessment, and instructional strategies. Math Recovery® has three different professional development offering paths:
