James Martland, our friend and colleague from Chester, England, was the 2016 winner of the prestigious Pioneer Award. This award was presented to him at the recent Math Recovery® Conference for his service in the United States and as a co-author of three of the Math Recovery® texts. During the 90’s and early 2000’s Jim helped train Math Recovery® teachers in Vermont, Wyoming, Canada, and the United Kingdom and also participated in numerous Math Recovery® Conferences as a speaker and Leader. Jim has been an inspiration to many teachers and he always closed his sessions by asking participants the question, “What are you taking away from this today?” Jim is not only a Leader of Math Recovery® but he is also an accomplished artist and a participant in a marching band in his native England. Jim is retired from the University of Liverpool. Many thanks to Jim for his international leadership in Math Recovery®!
