Purpose: Sequence numerals by 10s

Description: Students sequence a series of numerals by 10s on and off the decuple.

Players: 1-3

Materials

  • Numeral Cards (sets of 10 cards counting by 10s)
  • Student Directions

Directions

  • 1

    Select a card set to sequence.

  • 2

    Shuffle the cards and place face down in a pile.

  • 3

    Alternate turns by drawing a card and placing the numeral in sequence, following a skip count sequence by 10s.

  • 4

    As additional cards are drawn and placed, players may need to move the numerals to account for the new card drawn.   

  • 5

    When the sequence is complete, players check their work by reciting the sequence both forward and backward.   

Variations

Have students arrange the numerals in a backward sequence.

Allow students to sequence multiple sets at one time, sequencing the rows according to decades.
